Purpose of the Job

We are looking to hire a senior level banking and financial services lawyer with previous experience of  complex/structured lending topics relevant to the private banking / wealth management business and fund industry. This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist Legal team within the Group Legal Function dedicated to the legal support of the group product and services offering (GPS). The Legal GPS team supports the function of the bank which is in charge of the entire range of products and services for the Group, including lending. It geographically covers all our locations from which we provide services to clients. 
As a member of the Legal GPS team you will enrich your professional experience in the heart of the development of Quintet's products and services in an international environment. You will report to and work closely with the Head of Legal GPS. You will be based in Luxembourg. You will focus on providing legal support and expertise on standard lending matters (Lombard and MCD loans) for Luxembourg. The main focus of the role will be on complex and structured credit matters, with multi-jurisdictional aspects. It is noted that you will probably only have legal expertise in one or two jurisdictions but will have the experience to assist across the Group from loans booked across all our locations. You will be advising the credit committee on the credit structure from a legal perspective and then working with colleagues in lending origination, lending management and credit risk teams to prepare the documentation and provide legal sign off on the deal.

Key Accountabilities


  • Provide hands-on, business oriented and timely legal support and expertise on a variety of standard (Lombard and MCD loans) and complex/structured lending transactions as part of the normal lending business of the bank, and as part of the GPS Legal team to enable Quintet to identify, manage and report legal risk pertinent to such transactions / business.
  • Support the lending management team in the preparation of the documentation
  • Prepare and maintain standard templates for Lombard, MCD, and structured loans
  • Manage own workload in close collaboration with the Head of Legal GPS
  • Pro-actively engage with the business / stakeholders, in particular with the Head of Structured Lending and the Head of Credit Risk.
  • Occasionally represent the legal function on the credit committee and advice on proposed transaction, on credit watch list and possible litigation files
  • Work within Legal GPS specialist team collaborating with colleagues across the Group Legal Function, including the legal teams across Europe and the UK, as well as the Cross Border Legal Team

Knowledge and Experience


  • Senior level qualified lawyer with in-house financial services experience of relevant products and services of a private bank, with focus on structured and multi – jurisdictional lending.
  • Key experience in complex/structured lending  international lending transactions, security arrangements and related documentation standards; other products and services experience – e.g. Capital Market instrument, Derivatives, Private Equity funds, Real Estate funds, Alternative funds and products, is a plus.
  • A deep understanding of the needs of sophisticated clients in terms of credit structuring and of all the different components of a structured transaction.
  • Excellent knowledge and mastery of LMA standards.
  • Experience from multi-national law firms a plus.

Technical Skills


  • Qualified lawyer with at least 5 – 7 years’ relevant experience working in an in-house team in private banking / wealth management / financial services sector.

Languages Skills


  • Fluent in English (drafting included) with a good command of French. German and/or Dutch is a plus.
