Purpose of the Job

The Operational Risk Manager supports the Head of Operational Risk in delivering effective second line of defence (2LOD) support and challenge to the business in its management of non-financial risks, excluding regulatory and legal risks.  The individual provides experienced support in helping to drive the risk strategy and culture for the firm, within the Quintet framework.  Working as part of the groupwide risk function, the role holder will support the effective functioning and ongoing development of the group risk framework and approach, providing practical input to both the business and the group to deliver a value added 2LOD function.  Operating within a matrixed structure, the role holder will be expected to effectively engage with multiple key stakeholders and support delivery against Brown Shipley’s UK responsibilities and those of the broader Quintet Group.

Key Accountabilities

a) Support the development, delivery and embedding of the group risk framework and policies across the BSCo business and collaborate, as part of the group risk function, in the ongoing development of its core components, including but not limited to:
i. Risk policies
ii. Risk appetite statement
iii. RCSA process
v. Risk event management
vi. KRIs
vii. Emerging risks
viii. Action tracking
ix. Risk reporting
b) Through the appropriate leverage and interpretation of the components above, contribute to the collation and delivery of influential and insightful analysis to support the effective management of risks by the first line of defence (1LOD).
c) Work with team and group resources to ensure effective coverage of all non-financial risks, as per the group risk taxonomy, including, but not limited to, Business, Strategic, Information Security, Operational Resilience/BCP and IT Risk.
d) Provide effective risk reporting which supports management and the Board in focusing on the key risks faced by the business and assessing those risks against risk appetite to determine appropriate action to be taken or inform decision making.  
e) Contribute to the BSCo non-financial risk (excluding regulatory & legal risks) engagement within the group Risk function, ensuring positive input into the ongoing development of the group risk framework and its component parts.
f) Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with colleagues in the BSCo Risk team and across the wider risk function, and successfully operate in our matrixed group structure as a subject matter expert for non-financial risk (excluding regulatory & legal risks) across the group.
g) Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with key stakeholders in BSCo, across all office locations, to support the delivery of the risk function objectives through pro-active engagement, influencing and on-going education and become a trusted strategic business partner.
h) Support the delivery of the 2LOD risk culture programme components and the embedding of a strong risk culture across the business, consistent with the group approach.
i) Provide non-financial risk input into relevant risk reviews and risk advisory for specific local and group business initiatives and projects.
j) Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues from the broader 2LOD teams in both Risk and Compliance to achieve common goals. 
k) Provide support to the Head of Operational Risk in the delivery of the BSCo Risk function agenda and objectives, acting as a delegate for non-financial risk related aspects (excluding regulatory & legal risks) where required.
l) Support and engage with relevant governance fora both at a BSCo and group level, providing subject matter input.
m) Contribute to the development and delivery of the non-financial risk aspects of the ICAAP in accordance with industry best practice and group developments.
n) Support the monitoring and assessment of emerging risks to the business through appropriate reporting to provide insight and support proactive risk management. 
o) Support and deliver effective 1LOD training on key components of the risk framework for the BSCo business, as part of the group approach, to ensure understanding and compliance, and to maintain a strong risk culture.
p) Take ownership for continual personal development as a member of a high-performing team, and proactively engage with relevant training, industry events, peers and through BSCo and group development opportunities.

Knowledge and Experience

• Experienced enterprise or operational risk professional operating within financial services, with a background including banking, asset and/or wealth management
• Strong understanding of risk frameworks and methodologies and experience of their development and management
• Strong risk communicator who can engage and influence at senior management levels
• Good understanding of regulatory requirements and expectations and their effective embedding in risk and/or business activities
• Strong analytical skills
• Experience of the use and development of integrated risk systems
• Experience of working successfully in a complex, matrixed environment
